Crazy Jeepney Attempts to Beat Red Light, Flips Over Ambulance

Buting-Intersection-AccidentWhat do you get when you mix a speeding Jeepney full of passengers, and a counter-flowing ambulance? Perhaps the worst-looking vehicular accident in the Philippines you’ve seen online.

The video is a sign of how online the Philippines is becoming, since it was sourced from the Facebook profile of Barangay East Rembo, Pasig City. Even Barangays (the most basic administrative unit in the Philippines) already have their own Facebook accounts?

For those who can’t watch the video now: as a yellow ambulance zoomed across an intersection, having counter-flowed to bypass traffic along J.P. Rizal Extension, it was rammed on the right side towards the rear by a speeding Jeepney full of passengers. The impact made the ambulance fishtail, hit the center island and roll over to its left side, destroying a traffic light post nearly crushing two people riding on a motorcycle.

Who’s at fault? Ambulances have right of way if they’re responding to emergencies or delivering passengers. But to be fair the Jeepney didn’t beat the red light. It would’ve made it past the crossing before the light turned red if it didn’t bump the Jeepney, and even if the traffic light turned yellow before it crossed the intersection it was already too late to stop. Maybe the video is a lesson to all drivers that no matter how clear an intersection seems, you should at least slow down before crossing it?

    In
my opinion its Definitely the AMBULANCE drivers fault.. I drive ambulance too both in
Philippines and here in the Middle East, as emergency vehicles we are not
licensed to cross a red signal traffic light , we are just given the COURTESY
to cross! its not an excuse to cross an intersection speeding even ur lights
and siren is on… driver should always consider the safety of the crew and
passenger. and other motorists. kung tatawid ang ambulance sa isang red signal
traffic light, bago sya tumawid the driver must make sure na safe at nag
hintuan na both side at alam nya na binigyan na sya ng daan ng ibang
motorista.. reviewing the video at 0:12 sec the traffic light turns yellow…
but still the jeepney went tru.. what does amber light means=Amber (stop if
possible to do so). not seeing the ambulance because the ambulance is on the
wrong side of the road. the driver decides to went tru, kung mag stop sya at
his speed sa gitna ng intersection sya aabutin huminto blocking the
intersection. so bakit hndi narinig at nakita ni jeepdriver the ambualncekahit
nag wang wang at ilaw? did the ambulance stop and makes him noticed by other
motorist? hindi! dirediretso sya na parang nabili nya ang intersection..

The ambulance was the one who beat the red light. Plus it was counterflowing too.

It was more of the driver of the ambulance who is at fault here. The siren of the ambulance was not turned on therefore decreasing the reaction time of the driver of the PUJ.
