Want to play Dota 2 but haven’t received an invite from Valve yet? Week 3 of our giveaway starts today. We’ll be raffling off 1 copy of the popular Steam game, which is currently in closed beta. Read on to find out how you can win one.

It goes without saying that anyone who wants a copy of Dota 2 have played the original Dota (Defense of the Ancients), or are interested in the burgeoning ARTS (Action Real-Time Strategy) genre. So we’ll be asking participants to share their thoughts on the game.

Our last week starts today and runs up to June 20, 2012. All you need are accounts for:

  • Facebook (to participate)
  • Steam (so that you can play Dota 2 if you win the invite)

All you have to do is answer this question posted as a note on our Facebook page. Just a few things to keep in mind:

  • Leave your answer as a comment for the note.
  • Make sure to share the note with your Facebook friends, by click on the “Share” link directly below the note. We will only count those who answer the question and share the note as valid participants.
  • Deadline for this week is 11:59 PM, June 20, 2012, Philippine time.

Good luck!

Valve Confirms: Dota 2 Will be Free-to-Play

Last week, Dota 2 developer Valve Software confirmed that Dota 2 will be available as a free download. It seems the software company will rely on the same business model that drives Team Fortress 2: Offer a free game and sell virtual items for customization purposes.

A key difference: while certain items in Team Fortress 2 can actually make its users better than their teammates or opponents (depending on their playing style), Dota 2 items will be purely cosmetic. You can outfit Tidehunter, a popular Dota 2 hero, with a squid-like hat, but the virtual headgear won’t make affect his attacks or special abilities in any way.

But just like for Team Fortress 2, those who have the time and expertise to create their own items for the Dota 2 store are welcome to do so. If their creations are a hit, they will earn a percentage of what people pay for their work.

As for when Dota 2 will be available to the general public, Valve continues to stick with its projected release date of some time during this year.

Answers from Week 2

You all had great answers to the last question, “Who’s your Favorite Dota Hero and Why?” Winner Jantje Overal‘s entry wasn’t the best overall, but out of the entries that followed the rules:

My favorite is def[initely] Pudge. I just love hooking people out of nowhere and getting away with it.

Other highlights:

Benj Bautista: Mine would be Doombringer, and why i chose this, just read the ff. below:

*it’s easy to learn its gameplay
*can take a lot of hits
*a very fast and agile hero, with the right items, S&Y and PT namely
*a tanker, disabler, and support hero all rolled into one
*has one of the trickiest skills ever, “LVL Death”
*Scortched Earth with Vladmir+Assault+Radiance=”Get the hell outta his way or you’ll likely get killed!”
*can eat creeps, and I mean literally eat it! *Devour anyone?
*its name is “Doombringer”, c’mon, why wouldn’t you want a Hero which brings “Doom” just from its name?
*you want another reason!? Just look at that face, and that body, and the wings! If that Dragon-Like+Hell Spawn+Demon feature of the Hero doesn’t even convince you, I don’t know what will…

Leon Veprau: My favorite hero is Magine the Anti mage, 1: because he is an carry and i love to play carrys. 2: His blink make him very mobile to chase, to escape and to monster ganks. 3: with his passive he just instapable against mage heros. So mobility atack speed and perfect passive what need more ?

Cozma Arnold: my favorite hero is Lyralei , the Windrunner , why ? 1. its a hard hero to master with those skill shots 2.you can turn the game in your favor with a nice Shackleshot for some nice team kills 3.you can use PowerShot to kill running away targets 4. Windrun makes you more mobile and escape some ganks duo to the slow that gives to the enemy near her 5.Her Focus Fire makes her a good tower pusher

Mark Jhanfer Pabalan Layug: Vengeful Spirit. :) Nerubian is also fun (mana burn is the lamest spell in the game to play against though).
Yes, but that’s why I love using him. You get to spend the entire first 15-20 minutes of the game getting flamed by your opponents who keep whining about the fact that they can’t use any of their spells because you keep Mana Burning them. That’s good times.

Dani Sitar: My favorite hero is Vol’Jin the Witch Doctor , why ? because he can voodoo you in giving me dota 2 free
