An American who has lived and worked in Cebu for the past “three-and-a-half years” is a lock-in to become the next high-profile target of online Pinoy anger, thanks to a video titled “20 Reasons I Dislike the Philippines”.

So why does Jimmy Sieczka hate the Philippines? Here are his (actually over 20) reasons, summarized for your convenience:

  1. “You have a gigantic hole in the sidewalk… how do you fix it? Put a f*cking garbage can!”
  2. Fake drugs sold to wrong clients + inappropriate touching vendor
  3. Unsanitary conditions at public market
  4. MILF is a “terrorist” group (his air quotes), not the American Pie acronym
  5. Unsafe construction sites, unfinished buildings
  6. “Obsession with looking as white as possible”
  7. Lots of traffic, which “creates a lot of filth and pollution”
  8. Overuse of plastic packaging and paper = additional waste
  9. “Shitty driving… nobody follows traffic laws”
  10. “There’s nothing comfortable about 99% of the CRs I’ve ever been”
  11. “There [are useless and unqualified] security guards everywhere”
  12. “Pissing anywhere you want is a Philippine tradition”
  13. Ineffective spot searches by guard
  14. Overuse of car horns (“Beeping to beep”)
  15. Overuse of paper, part 2 (napkins)
  16. “Beggars wherever you go”, begging syndicates
  17. “No matter what time of the day it is, you can’t escape the cock [crowing]“
  18. Noise pollution caused by loud speakers at night
  19. “Lady boys, crazy prostitutes, an overabundance of drunk Koreans who don’t speak English”, among other things at Cebu’s Mango Square
  20. F*cking cockroaches everywhere
  21. “People expect tips for the tiniest of tasks”
  22. “Why is it every hot girl in the Philippines… is a lady boy? I don’t know…”
  23. “Tons of f*cking Koreans in the Philippines… they’re loud and obnoxious and to be honest the Filipinos don’t care for them either”
  24. Loud motorcycle exhausts

Sieczka’s ends with:

“The Philippines is a beautiful place at the end of the day. It’s filled with over 7000 islands, friendly people… the food isn’t so good, it’s a bit noisy, and it’s really dirty. So if you’re planning to stay for an extended period of time, be prepared to be pissed off… [drinks Pale Pilsen] it’s warm, f*ck!”

Update: Marocharim calls attention to the “fine print” in the video’s description:

About: If you think really hard, I’m sure you can come up with a couple reasons not to like something. In the land he loves so much, let Jimmy take you on a lighthearted tour of the negative aspects of living in a crowded country located at the earth’s equator. On the flip side, check out 20 Reasons I Love _____. (the Philippines) at: http://channelfix.com/video/109/.

You can watch the video, which was ripped from video site ChannelFix and uploaded to YouTube, below: Update: The YouTube video was taken down. Watch the original ChannelFix vid here.

The video was shot by another American named Michael Goodman, who also produced “20 Reasons I Love the Philippines“.

Does Sieczka paint an accurate picture of the Philippines? Let us know in the comments below. We’ll be waiting for those Facebook hate pages to spring up.

    REASONS TO DISLIKE JIMMY SIEZCKA…

  • geraldine292

What Jimmy Sieczka’s saying are all truth. We must face the reality. I think he’s video must serve as a wake up call for the government. I am also a Filipino and I don’t want to lie to myself. I am actually seeing what he mentioned in his video. Instead of taking it negatively, why don’t we just take it as a constructive comment.

In order for us to lure tourists and investors, we have to show them that it’s really more fun in the Philippines and not more annoying to be in the Philippines.

Jimmy probably never knew that there is a price for everything. He stayed in a cheap neighborhood hence, the noisy cocks. Have he stayed in Class A subdivisions, he would have been spared. Or if he paid P200 for a beer and not P20, it would certainly be cold. Want to be free of cockroaches? go to Makati or Ortigas where you pay more for anything which you get half the price in Carbon Market in Cebu. I’m sure there are cockroaches, too in the US…in cheap hotels.

  • Ajinomoto

I was just there, and Jimmy’s right. If Pilipinos only took care of their country, their health as well as their wealth will be better. It’s a beautiful country; the people just ruined it. I’m from there and I don’t deny that the country’s filthy.

  • BAGUIO BOY

As usual, Filipinos are in denial. What’s listed is exactly correct.

  • wowiebacs

except for no. 22 we have to respect his point of view. its not like everything he said are entirely false.

  • Stanley_stuart

Nahiya nmn ako jan sa jimmy na yan..ang linis at ang ayos nmn yata ng bansang pinagmulan nya..bigyan nga ng kape yan para magising. go back to where you came from a**hole

We are guilty of what Jimmy has said. However, is that a way to deliver a concern (or not!) for us? Geez, NO! Have you guys watched Lourd De Veyra’s: “The Word of the Lourd”? If you do, try comparing it to this one. De Veyra’s short films concerning political, social and a lot more problem in which Jimmy calls it his “dislikes”. Though De Veyra renders it with Respect. It is Clean. Decent. And obviously without the F-word.

We accept the fact (or maybe some of us don’t) of how we Filipinos treated/turned ourselves like this. It’s our fault anyways. And another fact, that we just want a way of respect even if it is concerns the negative side of us Filipinos from other foreign critics. Try sending us a message nicely or you want to help changing it. Right? And remember criticizing is different from an insult. And that’s it… I am just asking for RESPECT. :)

Yo dude, I’m a Filipino too, but I found your presentation hilarious and something most (if not all) can relate to, expats or otherwise. It’s just that some locals don’t want to hear negative things from a third-party observer; that is, like an expat foreigner. Consider it like what the blacks would get to call each other ‘niggers’, and gets away with it, but definitely a different story blurting out from a white guy’s mouth – you sure don’t want to know what’ll happen next (you know the Rodney King incident I’m sure ;)). If some peeps blew this out of proportion, definitely none taken from my end…. after all the almighty US of A has its own share of faults and shortcomings… who doesn’t.

To the rest of my countrymen – c’mon, we do some backstabbing ourselves with other nationals, we just don’t spit it out right in front of their faces though ;P ;P. Whatever faults exposed, consider it a *constructive criticism*. Case in point, who doesn’t hate seeing uncouth blokes reeking in alcohol peeing against the wall or lamp post right in public view? Or a toilet without tissue papers? Sure you now get the drift… ;)

No need to apologise – just keep it as it is.

I definitely LOL’ed over the MILF thing, Hahahahah!!!! (^_^)

Being in a third world country isn’t an excuse. We have all the more reasons to improve our country so that maybe we can move up from being branded as “3rd world”. And we can’t just tell every tourist to leave the country if they don’t like what they see or smell or hear. Otherwise, we’ll end up failing on our tourism, which is one of the businesses that a country shouldn’t lose. Remember, tourism leads to other industries: hotels, restaurants, tax, fare, etc…

  • Cherub_021

the point is you knew all of that but why do you stayed here in the Philippines for so long? If you don’t love the country why don’t you go back where you came from.. the criticisms are fine coz its partly true and its based on your opinion but remember your in the country you’re criticizing and you’re like digging your own grave here..haha! Some Filipino’s agree with you but it doesn’t mean you’re safe.. gudluck! haha!

  • convictscott

Every single thing about this video is the absolute truth. What’s actually embarrassing is that the Phillipino people cannot accept well meaning criticism.

It is reflective of a deeply ingrained inferiority complex, and frankly its sad.

If criticism is true, just accept it.

    hahaha hilarious
