Now available: CD-R King’s 7-inch Windows CE netbook

A new offering from the budget gadget retailer runs on a 500MHz processor and draws power from a battery with a capacity close to smartphones. It costs only ₱5,990.00.

It’s sometimes hard to remember that CD-R King started out selling blank CDs and DVDs. Nowadays the retailer is more known for budget-friendly catalog. Included in the mix are conventional products like an 11-inch laptop and PS3 wireless keyboard, to more offbeat consumer electronics like the USB massager, and even an energy-generating windmill!

The “7″ TFT LCD Netbook” now on CD-R King’s website may be listed as a “New Arrival”, but there’s hardly anything cutting-edge about the gadget. The netbook runs on Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3, features 256MB of RAM, and has a display resolution of 800 x 480. Of course, no netbook is useful with Wi-Fi and a card reader, which this CD-R King product has.

The capacity of the netbook’s battery is 1800mAh. For reference, the Samsung Galaxy S II has a 1600mAh battery. A potential deal-killer is the 1.5 hours of estimated battery life, and CD-R King apparently says you can recharge the battery only 300 times before it starts dying faster.

If you’re wondering if Windows Embedded CE is just like Windows 7, no. The “comapct” OS is designed for use in embedded systems, or computers designed for a limited set of functionality. CE is not a one-trick pony though. Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 is part Windows Phone 7‘s foundation.
