Robin Padilla endorses Cherry Mobile Shockproof phones

Last Friday was an afternoon filled with chika questions, kilig women, and a celebrity earning his pay, as action star Robin Padilla officially kicked off his endorsement of Cherry Mobile’s line of two shockproof phones.

The assembled media—including many who covered their respective organizations’ showbiz beats—eagerly waited for Mr. Padilla to take the stage. He didn’t disappoint.

The so-called Bad Boy of Philippine Cinema charmed the entire venue, with his passionate delivery and theatrical illustration of his products’ key feature. Sharing the spotlight with the Anak ni Baby Ama lead were the Cherry Mobile R9 Tough, a shockproof QWERTY phone featuring a 2.2″ color display and an SRP of ₱2,399, and the Cherry Mobile R7 Vigor, the R9′s numeric keypad counterpart priced at ₱1,999.

Padilla first thanked everyone for their attendance, and expressed gratitude towards Cherry Mobile’s executives for their faith in him. He then cracked a few jokes about sticking to his PR script.

Things turned up a notch when the endorser was handed the R9. The actor flexed his acting muscles, as he threw the phone down several feet in front of him. That made his audience gasp. Padilla never missed a beat as he picked up the phone, went back up on stage, and nonchalantly tossed the R9 into the air.

His point made, Padilla fielded a few questions. He was asked why he supported Cherry Mobile’s shockproof phones:

Mas maganda kasi, hindi dahil sa ako ay Cherry. Pero para sa akin, sa aking daan na nag-cecell phone, mas Maganda ang Cherry.

Una, eh di hindi pahihirapan yung bulsa mo. Hindi ka talagang bibigyan ka ng crucifixion. Talaga okey siya… lahat nasa kanya lang. Kaya, subukan niyo! Kasi mahirap lang yung bolero, mahirap mag-bola, mahirap maging puro salita.

Pero nakita niyo naman, kung ano pa naman ang gusto natin sa pagka-shockproof. Pag galit ka, di ka na kelangan magmanakit! Batuhan mo nalang cell phone mo, tapos tawagan mo nalang… “Hello, kamusta ka na?”

Robin Padilla stayed on the charm track, answering questions with ease even as they segued into his relationship with Mariel Rodriguez, a totally unrelated topic.

As the press event wrapped up, the media crowded the stage around Padilla. Under the heat of bright camera lights and flashes, the bad boy retained his air of cool.

Robin Padilla was even game as female employees took turns having pictures taken with him. It was funny to see career women turned into giggling schoolgirls, as Robin pretended to be their knight in shining armor.

I left the event with the sense that Cherry Mobile had chosen well. Robin Padilla built a career playing tough yet caring silver-screen heroes. That’s much like Cherry Mobile’s promise that its shockproof R9 and R7 will stay strong on the outside, yet provide everything you’ll need in a cell phone.

A source within Cherry Mobile revealed that part of Robin Padilla’s commitment with the manufacturer includes some TV commercials. Anak ni Baby Ama fans, stay tuned!
