SkyCable Broadband: The Best Internet Service Provider in the Philippines?

Sky Broadband recently invited a bunch of media peeps to enjoy internet speeds of up to 112 mbps somewhere in Rockwell.

While I wasn’t able to attend the event, Jayvee was kind enough to share his experience: downloading a 2GB+ game in only 20 minutes. His download speed went as high as 8 megabytes per second.

Really Fast Internet Comes at a Price

So how much would it cost for this kind of speed and reliability? First you have to be a resident of the Hidalgo building in Rockwell. Then you have to pay Sky ₱20,000 every month for a 112 mbps connection.

Then again, if you can spend ₱125,000 (or a quarter-million pesos an eighth of a million) just on rent, I’m pretty sure you can afford SkyCable’s super-duper special plan. After all, if you’re spending ₱1.5 million annually for living space, ₱240,000 for your internet connection doesn’t sound too expensive does it?

Few Complaints About Sky Broadband

We’ve all heard complaints about Globe’s, Smart’s, Sun’s, and PLDT’s so-called “broadband” services, and reports where connection speeds are slow, unreliable, or simply don’t work.

Yet I’ve rarely encountered negative feedback about Sky Broadband. The only problem? The ISP doesn’t boast the same coverage as its competitors. I’ve long waited for Sky Broadband to extend its service to my area.

I do have experiences with Sky, and they’ve always been great. My sister and her family recently moved to a new house, in an area supported by the service provider. I would always take a trip to her place whenever I had to download large files, since her connection was much faster than mine.

i’m sorry but 125,000 is not a quarter of a million.

Yeah, more like an eighth. Thanks for the correction! :)

  • Disappointed

Not true at all. Skybroadband is always down. Promises clients rebates and never did. We have it checked, and the technician was surprised of how slow the signal was, considering the service that we have subscribed to is “up to 3MBPS.” It has been this way for the past two years.

The fastest connection I know is Tattoo Torque, which promises speeds of up to 100 Mbps—and a max monthly fee of P15,000. It’s also only available at “Forbes Park, Urdaneta Village, Bel Air, and Serendra D&E (Makati, Taguig)”. I’ve been lucky enough to try out the 100 Mbps connection, and you literally get what you pay for. More details here: http://tattoo.globe.com.ph/product/torque

Any idea about sky cable’s coverage area? I want to know which places in the Philippines can avail their service.

SKY sucks more than ever. i’ve got the 1.5mbps connection. yeah you reach that in speedtest when you let it choose the fastest ping, which was bayantel. we all know bayantel is sky owned or so i think it is. but try testing it on globe or smart servers. you get like 250+ pings download is slower as well as uploads. I’m a graphic designer / web developer and I access overseas server every single day. I get disconnected all the time and I have to try at least 10 clicks until i get the mofo connected. SKY sucks balls and they’re just robbing us. And I mean ALL ISP providers in the philippines.

I got the cable and broadband bundle for (in U.S. dollars) $48.. my clients’ connection has the same plan (cable and broadband) for $50 flat with 100mbps download speed. yeah F*** that ISPs. But now i just have no choice but to stick with it. i’m gonna try bayandsl in a few days as well as that wii-tribe thing. if both goes well, i’m cutting my skybroadband.
