So the DepEd declares the “Jejemon subculture” as bad for the kids’ education.

The Sun Star reports:

THE Department of Education (DepEd) has declared an “all-out-war” against the emerging “Jejemon” subculture, saying that it will degrade the standards of the country’s education system.

“Not only that Jejemon language is not pleasing to the eyes, it has also destroyed years of achievements of the DepEd in pushing for better education quality,” said Education Secretary Mona Valisno.

According to the DepEd, they will emphasize proper spelling and pronunciation as steps against Jejenese and the Jejebet. But will they do anything significant online as well?

A reason why this so-called Jejemon subculture has flourished is because many Filipinos use it online. Should schools actually look for their students’ respective social networking profiles, and use incentives/punishments to break their habit of jejemonism?

I salute the DepEd for making a stang this time agaisnt this “jejemon subculture”. But DepEd should not stop at going against the said subculture alone. they have to make an active move by lobbying in congress for the passage of such laws prohibiting the use of this jejemon language not only in schools. they should request all agencies concerned to prohibit the use of jejemon language in television & radio shows/adds because media is the biggest medium from where children learn (or unlearn) the proper spelling/pronunciation of word/s.
