Sony Handycam DCR-SX43 First Impressions

Straight from Sony Philippines comes a review unit of the Sony Handycam DCR-SX43, an extremely compact camcorder with 60x of optical zoom. Pictures of the camera and its accessories, plus the official SRP, follow.

The Sony Handycam DCR-SX43 is available from all official Sony retailers (most likely those large gadget retailers) for P23,000. It’s actually small enough to fit into a loose cargo pant pocket, but the shiny and fingerprint-greedy finish begs for some protection.

The optical zoom alone is already interesting. When focused on a someone quite a distance away, the camera can zoom in to show the subject’s pores. The viewfinder folds away from the camera, swivels towards the front for camwhore videos, and reverse itself to fold back into the camera with the display facing outwards.

The LCD viewfinder features a touch-screen interface, which is pretty superfluous when using the camera to capture videos or photos. It’s more useful when accessing the menu for the camera’s various features. Stay tuned for a full review! Sample photos are of course available via The Eeyore Test, while a sample video is embedded below (resolution is 854 x 480).

Can you also take videos of people please? Seems to be an interesting gadget.

I’ll try! Also, I think my car’s dirty windshield made it harder for the camera to autofocus.
