Yesterday, HP launched a bunch of all-in-one PCs (AOI PCs) to the local market. The OS-less MS212L, the MS211D equipped with Windows 7, and the touch screen Touch Smart 600-1031d. First impressions, specs, and prices follow.

At the event I was only able to try out the Touch Smart 600 for a few minutes. The touch-screen interface is fast and responsive, turning your finger into a mouse pointer for your computer. You tap on an area to click it. To right-click, you tap and hold, waiting for the circle that appears around your finger to complete. And of course, double-clicking requires tapping the same area twice quickly.

Using Windows 7 through a touch-screen makes sense, but only if you mount the Touch Smart 600 on the wall, like an LCD TV. The 600′s keyboard and mouse are both wireless anyway, and should work from across the room. When placed on a table like a desktop, it’s still much easier to point and interact with the mouse.

With a fast hard disk featuring 750GB of capacity, a decently powerful video card (an NVidia GT230 with 1GB of RAM) and a DVD/CD burner, the Touch Smart 600 is a great media PC. If you want to use it as a desktop though, you’d better hang on to that mouse. In this configuration the touch display will be a novelty at best, until you realize you can get things done faster the old way.

Anyways, specs and official prices for the MS212L, the MS211D, and the Touch Smart 600 are below.

Incidentally, you guys may be interested in learning that HWM gave the HP Touch Smart 600 its ‘Multi-Test Best Performance’ badge in its AIO PC shootout (April 2010 issue).
