Another Reason to Love Gmail

So there I was on Gmail, hurriedly typing out an email, mere minutes before a deadline. Thankfully, a little touch kept me from committing a minor corporate no-no.

My boss was waiting for an image, and I was supposed to attach it to my update email. Everything looked good, so I quickly pressed Tab+Enter to send the message. Luckily, Gmail was paying attention:

That’s right: I forgot to attach the image! It’s little touches like this keep Gmail the best damn email app ever! This attachment saved me from sending a follow-up message apologizing for my forgetfulness. Or even worse, receiving a reply from my boss wondering where the required image was!

By now you’re probably wondering if I was emailing my boss using a personal account. The answer is no, but because Gmail can also handle email from other accounts—including my corporate mail—I’ve integrated everything with it. Keeping business email on my Gmail account means I can access it from any computer with an internet connection, regardless whether or not outlook is installed.

If you don’t use Gmail, I recommend you switch to it as soon as possible. Fellow Gmail users, do you have a particular feature that has made you fall in love with Google’s email service? Feel free to share below.

Aside from the themes that make Gmail look not so monotonous and professional-ish, I really like this attachment detector. I also love the emoticons, and the fact that it allows me to link all my Gmail accounts.

Teach me how to link my corporate email to Gmail. How is that possible?

In my circle of friends and contacts, I tend to become the official GMail geek/afficionado/evangelist whenever I highlight these features to them. I especially like the attachment notification script because like you said, it saves you from a ton of embarrassment over a forgotten attachment.

One other feature I like about GMail is its integration with Google Calendar. My calendar shows up on the left sidebar everytime, updating me of my schedule. And since I’m a journalist and I get a lot of presscon invites in my mail, a Calendar plugin wherein the date, time, and details of the event is automatically ported to my Calendar through a single click saves me a lot of time and brain cells. That there’s a Google Sync feature for the Blackberry is just the cherry on top of the great GMail service :)
