Finally got my hands on a Blackberry Bold 9700 to review. This is my first experience with a Research in Motion smartphone, and so far I’m impressed. It’s easy to see why the Canadian company has a significant customer base.
The 9700 has an optical trackpad, a miniature version of what’s found on laptops. You lightly drag your thumb over it to navigate menus, and move the mouse pointer in the web browser. It’s my first time to try out this kind of control, and it provides a good balance between precision and fast scrolling.
The keys of the QWERTY thumb board are beveled; this makes it easy to find the right letter and press it, and within a few hours I was typing on the 9700 like a pro. I’ll be trying out the phone over the next week, so stay tuned for a full review.

I really want this one, but the Blackberry data rates in the Phils are so expensive! Or is it tolerable in your opinion? I’m on prepaid by the way.

If I remember correctly, both Smart and Globe have their own Blackberry-friendly plans that sound very reasonable (I’ll look for them now, so stay tuned!).

Yep, I saw it. But I wonder if it’s already reasonable enough.

Hey Rico! This was a phone I’d been lusting after for half a year! I finally picked it up a few weeks ago and it’s great! (I upgraded from a Curve 8320). The speed is wonderful and I’m in love with the optical trackpad. There are tons of reasons to love this phone.
To answer Glenn’s question, Both Globe and Smart have dedicated Blackberry Data Plans. Globe’s is 1,200 a month and if I’m not mistaken, so is Smart’s. If you’re anything like me, it’s worth it. 1,200 gets you unlimited data for any use every month. My bill dropped from 6-8K a month to 2,400 this month.
The best thing is… they have no tethering plans which means… there’s no extra charge to tether! I hook my phone up to my laptop and surf at 3G speeds without paying any extra fees.

@Michael Arcilla
Thanks for that comment bro. I’ve been searching all over the web to find out if Globe actually charges tethering on my BB9700 on 3799 plan a month.
However you have 1,200 plan that’s also unlimited? I was told that 3799 plang and 5400 plan were the only plans with unlimited data per month. Hmm
anyways hit me up if you read this, I’d like to know if you have received any bills by this time regarding tethering
