How to Maximize Your Nokia Phone

If you’re content with using your Nokia phone without ever connecting it to a computer, you’re missing out on a lot. Here are a few reasons why.

Ovi Suite

Ovi Suite is the latest version of the software that backs up your Nokia phone’s data to a computer. Older versions, while functional, were cumbersome and slowed down your PC. That’s not the case with the latest version of Ovi Suite. It also lets you send SMS messages and receive calls on your computer.

It’s pretty convenient to view all your texts, reply to contacts, and even talk to them—all through your computer’s USB port or Bluetooth connection, without picking up your phone. Ovi Suite can also turn a 3G-capable Nokia phone into a modem, allowing a connected laptop to surf the web if no WiFi hotspot is available.

Software Updates

Some updates for your Nokia phone can only be installed using Ovi Suite. There are many reasons why you should keep your phone’s software up-to-date. Other than fixing any bugs brought , these updates also make your phone easier to use. Applying the latest update to my N97 left me with a more responsive phone, and added some fixes to its built-in web browser that made web pages load faster.

Ovi Maps

3D-landmarkFor certain Nokia phones with built-in GPS hardware, you get Ovi Maps for free! The software helps users navigate who are driving, commuting, or even walking. Unfortunately, Nokia’s maps of the Philippines isn’t complete right now, and covers mostly Metro Manila.

However, if you’re traveling to a country that’s pretty mapped out (like say, the US or a European state), Ovi Maps is a lifesaver. Tourist-friendly content from services like Lonely Planet will help visitors locate points of interest. And, to save on data charges from downloading map content, users can use the Map Loader to download the data onto their phone through a computer before going abroad.

It takes time to download the software mentioned above. But they are great tools that help Nokia phone users get the most for their money. Do you have your own way of maximizing your nokia phone? Feel free to share below.

do all E-series nokia phones have quickoffice? as of now, that’s the greatest app i have, together with google maps. if only ovi maps could enable you to add roads like google does, it could be pretty helpful navigating around the metro. :D

namamahalan kasi ako everytime i connect with google maps, 3G connection kelangan agad. tapos anlaki ng range when you’re moving… so it’s kinda useless unless you’re just walking.

AFAIK all E-series phones have quickoffice preinstalled. They’re business-oriented devices after all.

About adding roads, I agree with you. Pero Nokia execs told me that they prefer Navteq to do all the work, just to make sure tama yung map info nila. :)

The best thing about Ovi Maps IMO is that you can pre-load the maps, then rely solely on your phone’s GPS hardware—no need for 3G!

Bakit walang street names ang ovi maps? Sobrang useless.
