Rule of Writing Online #11

Watch your spelling when describing nationalities or countries.

Case in point: witness Filipino blogger Marocharim enjoy a feature on BBC’s Blogworld. It’s great that Paul Coletti has taken notice of Maro’s commentary on Felix “Peck” Cantal, a presidential candidate for the 2010 elections. But you don’t spell Filipino as “Philippino”.

True, we call our country Philippines in English, and call ourselves Filipinos in the same language. Yet a quick Google search would’ve helped you out Mr. Coletti. On top of that, Microsoft Word doesn’t consider “Filipino” a misspelling, because it is actually a word.

By the way fellow Filipinos, make sure you spell Filipino and Philippines correctly!
