The Nokia 6760 Slide Review

The Nokia 6760 is one of those dilemma-creating phones: it’s a very capable phone, but just not capable enough. And its all the screen’s fault.
My first impressions still stand: the screen is simply doesn’t maximize the available space, and you need to pull out the QWERTY keyboard to dial a number. You can still browse the contacts list through the Nav-key and the menu buttons, but wouldn’t it have been better to make the display touch-sensitive? Then you’d be able to call or even text while keeping the phone contact, through a virtual numeric keypad like the N97.
Of course, to keep the phone’s price down and make it appeal to its target market (which I think are people who want to type in text quickly but don’t have lots to spend), Nokia had to scrimp somewhere. That meant no touch-screen apparently. I totally understand the need to move the keyboard to a slider, to keep the phone compact, but Nokia shouldn’t have scrimped on ease-of-access for the phone.
On top of that, the 6760 uses a 2.5mm earphone jack! This means normal earphones and headphones can’t plug into the phone. Such a rarity for Nokia nowadays, with most of their high-profile models featuring the standard 3.5mm jack.
The battery allows two to three days of normal usage, and is in fact a bright spot for the phone. That’s because the famous 1500 mAh BP-4L powers the 6760, the same battery that drives more power-hungry phones like again, the N97.
Other features like Bluetooth and an FM radio make the 6760 a pretty versatile gadget—if it weren’t for the lack of WiFi. The phone is HSDPA-capable, so you can surf the web at good speeds, provided your network provider is holding up its end of the deal.
At the end of the day however, my final word on this gadget is simply that Nokia alone offers more versatile phones; they provide more value for your money. Get your hands on a Nokia E63, and you’ll see just what I mean. As someone who’s enjoyed a non-stop stream of hits from Nokia, this is a miss.

Aww… I was supposed to buy this phone while waiting for Android phone prices to drop. Now I’m thinking if I should buy the Nokia 5730 or E71 instead.

Hmmm, can you get an E71 at the same price of the 6760 slide? (P12,770)

No word on the camera? With the slider closed, it almost seems as if being a simple point and shoot digicam is the natural state of the 6760.

Perhaps, but the camera isn’t exactly something to write home about.
