NoyBook.Com Shut Down

Remember when a Noynoy Aquino volunteer discovered that the person behind NoyBook.com—a website to hold mock elections online—was a supporter of Gibo Teodoro?

Well the site has been taken down. Here’s the announcement on said supporter, King Del Rosario, on his personal blog:

To all Filipino Voters:

After hours of deliberation, I have decided to shutdown the Mock Elections I have personally put-up on www.noybook.com. I admit the fact that it has resulted to a lot of confusion and criticisms. I deeply and humbly apologize for this. Although the intention to make use of the said domain name was merely to induce more response and participation, I am afraid it has crossed the line not usually taken in the world of politics.

My desire was only to provide all of us a real-time and transparent simulation of actual voting preferences which is not apparent in past surveys released to the public. My fault was to assume everyone would feel and think the same way.

This act was not sanctioned by Green Team and by the Official Campaign Team of Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of us!

King del Rosario

A day before shutting the site down, Del Rosario posted an explanation about Noybook’s name and logo, a direct reply to our previous article on the site:

  1. Noybook means Pinoybook. If you think it’s pertaining to Sen. Noynoy Aquino, well then, you have it wrong. You may keep your opinion though because the “confusion” is really a planned afterthought. Can’t help it. If you are having that assumption because of the logo, proceed to #2. I originally intended to call it “Gibook”. But come on, even I could not deny it sounds “mabantot”. Pinoybook is already taken. Ninoybook and Noynoybook is taking it too far. And oh, I don’t want .net, .org, etc. extensions. On the other hand, a .ph is too expensive.
  2. The Noybook Logo. Yes, it uses Ninoy’s trademark glasses. Once again, it is Ninoy and not Noynoy we’re talking about. Does Noynoy even wear such type of glasses? Now, is it wrong to commend the heroism of Ninoy Aquino while not supporting the candidacy of his son as President? I don’t think so. You see, the legacy of Ninoy and Cory, as what the staunch yellow reporters are so crazy about, is democracy. Democracy gave all of us the right to have an opinion. Democracy gave all of us the freedom of expression. Democracy gave all of us the half-right and half-privilege to vote.

(Disclaimer: Noynoy Aquino is my choice of Noynoy Aquino is my choice for President, but I’m not involved with his volunteer team)
