Continuity: Classic Platform Gaming With a Twist

If you haven’t played Continuity, a game that combines platforming and puzzle gaming, here’s why you should. Screenshots and a brief description of this unique game’s mechanics follow.
First things first: part of the game’s appeal is discovering the mechanics for yourself. It’s an accomplishment of its own, and will be spoiled by reading on. To avoid this, head over to continuitygame.com and see if you can figure things out.
The object of Continuity is to maneuver a leaping stick figure to each level’s exit door, accessible only once all keys on the level have been secured. The unique twist of Continuity is that every level is divided up into pieces, and presented as a slide puzzle. You have to maneuver the pieces to open up paths for the stick figure. The game gets more challenging as you work with more pieces, making it harder to figure out how to maneuver them to create routes to the door and the keys.
Thus Continuity has two modes: an “overview” mode where you use the arrow keys to move the pieces of the level around, and a “platform” mode where you actually control the stick figure, also with the arrow keys. Pressing the space bar shifts between both modes. Some things to consider (again, stop reading now if you want to discover more about the game yourself, and visit continuitygame.com):
- The stick figure can only move between two pieces if their corresponding edges exactly match
- If the stick figure falls downward past the edge of a piece, and the piece below doesn’t match, he is transported back to the beginning or the location of the last key acquired
- If the stick figure is “split” between two pieces (this happens in later levels), the player won’t be able to move those two pieces in “overview” mode
