Globe Announces New Call Rates

Related to the new call charging scheme prescribed by the NTC, Globe sent me the following announcement this morning.

Globe Advisory: In compliance with NTC Circular 05-07-2009, Globe is pleased to offer our subscribers per second charging for voice calls within the Globe network for only 10 centavos per second from Mon-Sat and 5 centavos per second on Sundays. Simply dial 232 plus the 10-digit Globe/TM# u r calling (ex 232917xxxxxxx). [emphasis mine]

In case your too lazy for math, 10 centavos a second is P6 a minute, and half that on weekends. Why the number need for a special number though? Does this mean Globe’s normal rates remain the same? Things will become much clearer for me—as a postpaid subscriber—once the next bill arrives.

And, to any Smart and Sun subscribers out there, have you received any announcement regarding new call rates on your respective network? Feel free to share below!

The per second promo is not new for Globe. I’ve been using that for months now with the 232 prefix. The rates are also the same with only the Sunday rate being a new development.

Globe should not tout this as their response to the NTC order since their per second scheme is a special service and not their basic service (no prefix required).

Come to think of it, you’re right. In fact, I wonder if Globe is taking advantage of a loophole here?
