DataBlitz Drops Prices of PC Games

Seems DataBlitz has dropped the prices of PC games to remain competitive with Steam. For some titles, it now makes sense to buy from the software retailer rather than Valve’s online game store.

Take for instance Left 4 Dead 2, which currently costs $50 on Steam (P2,344.22 according to Google, as of this writing). From DataBlitz Park Square I it’s only P1,395! The prices are the same for Dragon Age: Origins, from both stores. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is P2,485, lower than Steam’s $60 (P2,813.07!).

Now I’m glad I didn’t pay for Left 4 Dead 2 during its pre-order promo, which slashed $5 off the game (P2,109.80) in the weeks before its official release on Steam and retail. I would’ve paid an extra P714.80 if I was less patient—and miss out on a free 2010 Left 4 Dead 2 calendar! One more thing: Batman: Arkham Asylum may cost $50 on Steam, but only P1,350 from DataBlitz!

DataBlitz’s prices also reveal a bias towards PC gamers, at least compared to the PlayStation 3. The PS3 version of Dragon Age: Origins will set you back by P2,100. NBA 2K10 for the gaming console costs P2,250, while the PC version retails for only P995! This is closer to Steam’s price of $20 (P937). The DataBlitz copy however gives you installation discs, precluding the need to spend time and money—for a higher electricity bill—to leave the computer on overnight downloading games.

Does this mean you should forego Steam and buy exclusively from DataBlitz from now on? Well, not exactly. Steam still has better deals than DataBlitz, especially for older games, and currently the reverse is true for newer titles. It’s a good time to consider your options, and see what gets you more for your hard-earned money.

Actually, the prices for PS3 games have significantly dropped at Datablitz. They originally averaged PHP 2,900 to PHP 3,100 (I got my GTA IV for PHP 3,100).

Now, the PS3 games usually cost around PHP 2,100 to PHP 2,295. That’s an 800 peso drop.

Of course, the PC games are still cheaper, especially those repacked games selling at PHP 350. Wowzers.
