The Obligatory Manny Pacquiao Defeats Miguel Cotto Post

With Manny Pacquiao now the first boxer to win titles in seven different weight classes (and currently the title holder in five), it’s literally my nationalistic duty to mention him in this site one way or another.

Luckily, Photoshop has given me an excuse. Presenting a less muscular and shorter-haired Manny Pacquiao, surveying over his felled opponents at the same time thanks to the magic of photo manipulation! Something I like to call Pacquiao Photoshop Punishment:

Pacquiao-Photoshop-Punishment

From all appearances, the hastily-made composition above was the work of SieteSuerte.

For some reason, only Oscar dela Hoya escapes with some respect, sitting despondently in the corner. Some questions raised by Pacquiao’s 12th round TKO victory over Miguel Cotto:

  • Will jokes like “pacman proved that he can kill not only dandruff but cotto as well” grow old? (sighted on Facebook)
  • Will Manny Pacquiao enter into even more surreal endorsements? Rexona’s message that it’s ok to sweat only inside the ring makes sense, but Head and Shoulders? Seriously? If you need jokes like the one above to make sense, your marketing campaign is doomed.
  • Will other gadget makers, aside from Nikon, jump on the Pacquiao bandwagon? Maybe Sony’s campaign for the Cyber-shot TX1, which emphasizes the ultra-compact’s low-light ability, should accompany Pacquiao on his next foray into Embassyphare.
  • Will we see more YouTube gems like the following?

All the above are mere footnotes to the most important question of all, rendered in classic Pacquiao accent: “Hu’s nixt?” Mabuhay Manny. Mabuhay! Seriously, I cannot imagine anyone else taking gut-wrenching shots as part of a game plan, ultimately winning, then entertaining a crowd with his own concert—complete with blood-drained ear and swollen face. Wow.
