The Gadgets of Jessica Zafra

Before Globe presented the results of its new test designed to disprove Smart’s claims of wireless broadband supremacy, there was Jessica Zafra beside me, approving comments for her blog on her laptop.
So I did what any self-respecting yet ultimately pesky tech editor would do, and immediately proceeded to asking Ms. Zafra about her gadgets. It was clear from the get-go that Jessica is a geek, aware of the intricacies of her various gadgets. What else can you expect from someone who went to Philippine Science High School? Here’s hopefully a comprehensive list of the gadgets she currently uses:
- Sony Ericsson P1i – Zafra likes the phone’s built-in call-screening function
- Black Macbook
- Olympus Pen E-P1 – She related how her camera is simply a digital re-issue of a famous 35mm manual model
- iPod – The first one featuring video playback capability, dated 2005
- Kodak ZX1 – A pocket camera she uses mainly to record interviews
- Globe Tattoo
Other techie traits observed were Zafra’s knowledge of blogging software (she narrated moving to WordPress from Blogspot after someone offered to host her blog), and an eagerness to connect to the nearest WiFi hotspot. But nothing proved her geekiness more than her knowledge that the dot’s location on a Gmail address doesn’t really matter.
From her writings, I’ve always thought of Jessica Zafra as a no-nonsense personality who likes going straight to the point, an approach she took when talking about her gadgets and their use. Her Olympus Pen aside, Zafra seems to be the frugal geek, easily seeing past the slick marketing that characterizes the consumer electronics market today. Or at least, that’s what I’m assuming, given her reliance on “old” yet still useful tools.
