The Gadgets of John Lloyd Cruz

John Lloyd Cruz has cultivated a fan following through his “boy next door” image. Recently, during the Cherry Mobile concept store launch, I witnessed such appeal first-hand, as I asked him about his gadgets.
JLC is definitely no geek, and said up-front that he isn’t really into gadgets and doesn’t know that much about them. According to him, here are some of the gadgets he owns:
- Cherry Mobile C55: A touch-screen clamshell with a 1.3 megapixel camera, FM radio, “multimedia” player, Bluetooth, microSD card slot, and a “voice changer” that retails for P5,990.
- “Titanium” 13-inch Apple Macbook: Or the aluminum unibody Macbook, first-generation
- Leica D-LUX 4: JLC talked about liking the camera’s picture clarity, and how he’s gone through numerous cameras
- Apple iPod touch: No longer used
- Nintendo DS: A gift he stopped using it after two weeks
- Bose headphones: He wasn’t really sure of the model
Just because John Lloyd Cruz owns something however, it doesn’t necessarily mean he uses it. JLC sheepishly admitted this when talking about the iPod Touch and Nintendo DS. In fact, he most likely ends up owning a gadget because someone else gave it to him, as in the case of the Macbook (from his ex) and the iPod Touch (from a “kaibigan”).
A source within Cherry Mobile shared that John Lloyd Cruz also owns a “high-end” Blackberry, and is actually on his second Cherry Mobile phone, after he accidentally sat on his first one and cracked the screen.
John Lloyd Cruz kinda reminds me of Gloria Diaz. Definitely not techies, both were very polite, trying to their best to accommodate me bugging them about the gadgets they use. While the former beauty queen posed eagerly with her two low-end cellphones, Lloydie propped up his phone so that I could properly take a picture of it.
