New brand-on-the-block Cherry Mobile‘s killer combo: come out with full-featured phones with masa-friendly prices, get John Lloyd Cruz to talk to an eager crowd about them, and sell a cell phone for only P500! Here’s what happened yesterday at SM North Edsa.
I arrived a half-hour late for the event, which was held beside the newly-opened Cherry Mobile concept store on the 4th floor of Cyberzone, SM North EDSA annex. While John Lloyd Cruz (JLC) was busy checking out the store, Wazzup Wazzup alumna Niña Dolino kept the crowd busy, handing out freebies to JLC fans called at random. Another half-hour passed and models took the stage, cat-walking along the center aisle while “using” Cherry Mobile’s various phones.
After another 20 minutes, JLC finally took the stage amid a screaming crowd and kept the noise level high as he did one song. The guards had to form a cordon to keep eager shutterbugs a safe distance from the stage, as JLC even serenaded one of the models, much to her delight.
Upon finishing the song, Cruz was rejoined by Dolino. They both talked to the crowd about Cherry Mobile, mostly pointing out the low prices the brand features. The most expensive phone, according to the brochure I picked up at the store, is the P6,990 T80 Pulse, which has a touch-screen, a 1.3 megapixel camera, a 2.8″ screen, Bluetooth, “multimedia player”, and an FM radio.
To end his spiel, Cruz pointed to the concept store on his left, and told people about a special promo: the first 200 buyers of the P1, a basic call & text model that normally retails for a thousand pesos, would be able to get it for only P500! (The promo continues today, but only for the first 50 buyers). JLC then handed out two more prizes to randomly chosen winners, then departed the stage and sat down for an autograph signing session. After a rest break at the backstage, he left for good.
More info on Cherry Mobile’s various models to follow dear readers, so stay tuned! If you’re interested in the brand’s various models, feel free to check out the Cherry Mobile concept store at the SM North EDSA Cyberzone, on the 4th floor of The Annex.
