Sony Cyber-shot TX1 Unboxing, First Impressions

Sony recently sent us a Cyber-shot TX1 to review. Before we start testing the camera and posting test photos, here’s what comes in the box, and some first impressions of the Cyber-shot T Series’ new flagship model.

As with other Sony cameras, there’s a sticker listing the features of the TX1 on the front of the camera. This is probably so that new users can unconsciously market the gadget to other people in public, but it also makes it hard to admire the stylish “washed metal” finish of the sliding lens cover—which contrasts well with the matte finish characterizing the rest of the camera—so I removed the sticker immediately.

Interesting tidbits encountered during the unboxing were how the wrist strap is already attached to the camera out of the box, and the thickness of the included manuals (available in English, Japanese, Malaysian, and Arabian versions). The camera itself is very portable, very close in size to a deck of cards, but features a generously-sized 3″ touch screen.

Here’s a list of what’s in the box:

  • Instruction manual
  • Warranty card
  • Software CD
  • Catalog of Cyber-shot TX1 accessories
  • USB / TV-out cable
  • NP-BD1 battery in a plastic case
  • Changing dock and power cord
  • Wrist strap (already attached to camera
  • Paint pen (attaches to wrist strap, used to operate touch-screen

Sony was kind enough to give us a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo to use with the camera. Watch out for more articles featuring the Cyber-shot TX1!

Oh, mine’s pink! :) The Sony photos are sharp much to my pore’s chagrin. Still love the soft effects of the Canon though. :)
