Jeepney Drift Videos (AKA “Patok”, “Palo”, “Paluan”)

Jeepney-Drift-Patok-Palo

Like “thegreatest” (who sent this in), I feel so behind the times. Apparently, more than a year ago, videos capturing Jeepney’s drifting were uploaded to YouTube. Here are some videos featuring the so-called palo or patok.

Can anyone confirm if this is still going on, and where?

Update: According to rumors flying around in Plurk:

  • “di ako sumasakay sa mga jeep na yan.. may nakita na kasi ako nag wheelie sa marcos highway”
  • “One of my GMs said this is happening in Fairview area. He said riding one is so fun. O_O I never knew about this either. I’m amazed.”
  • “Pag may naka sabit daw mas ok kasi added weight sa likod. Shucks. -_- Ideal number of massengers: Half full.”

    its in marcos highway…

i just rode one jeep and did that drifting… and then last year saw a jeep made a wheelie before it crosses katipunan-marcos highway.

after experiencing that.. i decided not to ride patok jeeps.

and i hope these patok drivers die!

I spent a night in Marikina when I was in college and had to ride a patok because we woke up really late. It’s insane!

Dapat sa mga ganyang driver kinukulong na agad. I don’t mind if they die doing their crazy stunts, but I just hate how it endangers other people.

Why are they swerving? is that some sort of game those jeepney drivers are playing?

    Sick!

I’ve boarded the General jeep a couple of times now. It doesn’t always do drifts, but it is always fast. It’s why people ride it actually, because it’s fast. I come from both Antipolo and Marikina where these “Patok” jeeps are abundant especially in early mornings, late afternoons and late nights, when most of the roads are clear.

If you’re coming from Antipolo going to Cubao, then the jeep probably leaves the terminal overloaded, with a conductor and/or a passenger or two making “sabit”.

You’d most likely find jeepneys like this on Marcos Highway for the Antipolo and Cogeo routes, Sumulong Highway for the Antipolo route, Paliparan area in Marikina for the Parang routes and on the streets SSS Village jeepneys pass through. You’d see them coming because of the multi-colored flashing lights and the loud music.

i remember a friend of mine telling me about her first experience riding those patok jeepneys. sinabihan niya yung driver na wag ganon magpatakbo, sinigawan pa siya. sabi, bumaba nalang daw siya dahil ganun talaga kapag sa patok ka sasakay. kung ayaw mo ng ganon, wag ka sumakay.

Or they just go fast enough to go unnoticed.

There are jeeps that did this (I don’t know if they still do) in Aurora boulevard near the old Nestle ice cream plant. They usually also play loud music. They come one after the other and it seems like they try to one up each other.

There have been accidents because of these jeeps. They once hit a sign post in Aurora and a few people were injured.

These really should be banned. There are fucking passengers, man!
