Smart Gold Lite Plans V. Smart Gold Regular Plans

SmartGoldButtonlogoI’ve been using my Smart Gold Lite Plan 500 for about 5 months now and I recently got a Smart Gold Consumable Plan 1800.  I would like to compare the two plans for Filipinos who are thinking of getting a post-paid plan from Smart.

Gold Lite is a SIM-only plan, meaning you’ll only get a SIM card and no phone kit comes with it.  Applying for a Gold Lite plan only takes approximately 30 minutes with only one (1) valid ID as a requirement.  After that you’ll get your Gold Lite SIM card.  With Regular/Consumable plans, you need to go through a week of processing and wait until the phone you want is available.

A simple comparison:

Gold Lite Gold Regular/Consumable
30 Minutes Processing 3 to 5 days processing
1 Valid ID Required Valid ID and Proof of Income Required
2 Pesos Smart to Smart Calls Depends on the Plan (6.11 for Smart to Smart on Plan 500
6 Months Contract 24 Months Contract
Plan 300 – Online Bill only Paper Bill
Low Credit Limits Higher Credit Limits

Only problem I see is they base the credit limit on the Unbilled Charges and when you reach the limit, your line is automatically redirected.  For example, if your credit limit is PhP 700, when your unbilled charges reached that amount, you’re calls and text messages will be redirected (Meaning you can’t send SMS and place calls).

Either way, both type of plans are good.  I haven’t encountered any problem with my Smart service.

Note: This is not a paid review of Smart Gold Services

Afaik, the 1 valid ID requirement is only applicable to Gold Lite Plan 300. Gold Lite 500 and up would need additional requirements. I’ve been on a Gold Lite plan since April and have been very pleased with its low Smart to Smart call rates.

btw Rico, i thought you got yourself a Globe postpaid line?

i’ve been a subscriber of SmartGold lite too for over 8 months now and i’m actually quite happy. i’m not sure if i want to move into the P500 plan but most of my bill comes from data (3G) use. i hope Smart comes out with a data plan din… or i just might not know of it, meron na pala. the P10/30 mins is a bit limiting but OK na din.

Reggie: This was written by LA Lomarda, not by me. Exactly how low are we talking about? :)

bursky: Oo nga, data plans may actually be more expensive than the typical P10/30min rate, but if better reliability is promised and delivered, I’d be willing to pay a bit more.

@Reggie – Also for other plans under Gold Lite if you’re getting only one line.

@Rico – P2.00/minute Smart to Smart calls in all Gold Lite plans.

If there is no printed bill for the SL 300 plan how do you pay your bill at the payment centers? Can I only pay at a smart center then?
