Google-Wave-No-IE-screenThanks to some PR dude representing Google in the APAC region (he happens to be Pinoy by the way), I scored a Google Wave account. Now if you’re lucky enough to have received an invite to try out Google’s new “communicative and collaborative” tool, here’s why you shouldn’t try using it in Internet Explorer.

First, Google warns not to proceed if it thinks you’re using Internet Explorer:

To use Google Wave in Internet Explore you need to install the Google Chrome Frame browser plugin:

[Install Google Chrome Frame]

Or, you can use one of these browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Safari 4
  • Firefox 3

If you want to continue at your own peril, go ahead.

So of course, I went ahead! Here’s what I ended up with (I was using Internet Explorer 7):

Yes, a totally non-functional interface.

So, you’ve been warned, dear readers (though feel free to share what happens if you try loading Google Wave on IE6 or IE8). If you’re wondering what Google Wave is and what I think of it, feel free to check out my article entitled Google Wave First Impressions.

On one hand, google is alienating a huge chunk of the browser market and could be setup for some majore fail later on.

On the other hand however, since google is such a huge name in itself, this could totally force people to try other browsers, heck maybe it’s a way to have more users migrate to chrome.

IE pawned!!! Woot!!! So how’s the first look at Google Wave?

coydeleon: Here’s to hoping it’s the latter (that people switch from IE, not necessarily convert to Chrome)
