Why Was the Internet Slow Yesterday?

Frustrated with the internet slowdown yesterday? Seems a typhoon in Taiwan was responsible, cutting the link that bridges the Philippines to the rest of the world. Details on what exactly was damaged and when full service returns follow.

The typhoon, nicknamed Morakot, caused damage to the Asia-Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2), a telecommunications cable system buried underneath the sea which provides. The APCN2 is responsible for a significant part of internet traffic in Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and of course, the Philippines. Repairs are underway, and normal operation should resume by the morning of August 14 at the latest.

The damage was severe enough to actually cause a cut in the 19,000 km cable-system, leading to limited connectivity for many offices and homes. Local internet users complained of significantly slower internet speeds, and then Straits times reported difficulties in accessing sites and online services based in Taiwan and the US.

Previous damage to the cable caused limited internet connectivity back in 2006, due to an earthquake in Taiwan.

Yeah, proves how the media is more concerned with “tabloid-news”, I thought my computer was infected with something. I only heard about it yesterday by searching the net thats really slow like I was using a dial-up connection. AND MY BLOODY SERVICE PROVIDER DIDN’T EVEN TELL ME.

Do you think even will they be honest to their customer what happened. All they want is revenue every month from us and not improving the level of their service.
