At least they got good value for their phones.

Aren’t you annoyed when people have high tech phones but don’t know how to use ‘em?

    ’nuff said

Yes, now if we can only get “less-qualified” people to invest in point-and-shoots instead of dSLRs.

Yes. Absolutely. I’m not just annoyed. I HATE those people.

Just the other week, I was at the Nokia store at Greenbelt 1 where this irate middle-aged woman (who had the air of a corrupt Customs agent, down to the over-gold accessories) was berating the poor store manager for failing to set-up her e-mail on her new N97.

Apparently, Ms. Customs didn’t know how to use her N97. (Surprise, surprise). Nor, apparently, could she be bothered to learn how to set-up her contacts and other basic things that even a 6 year-old child is capable of these days.

Also, Ms. Customs was upset with the poor store manager because she lacked the mind-reading capabilities to read Ms. Customs’ mind and learn her gmail login information.

    Imagine that.

Now, I have a mean jones for tech gadgets and I know how to use them, so it pisses me off whenever someone who is obviously just after the “cool factor” of having the NEW NEW thing winds up owning the NEW NEW thing and brandishes it about, acting as though they’re the CEO of a Fortune 500 corporation.

Newsflash: I actually know several CEOs and many of them use pretty ratty mobile phones by techies’ standards. Thankfully, they’re being rescued by RIM but, even so, quite a number of them prefer phones like the Nokia 6120 classic (and its successors). Easy to use for calling and texting.

Usually, important people here in our country are seldom into tech gadgets and prefer the simplest possible technology to use. They have an “appliance” mindset when it comes to these things.

Now, it’s not a bad thing so much as a generational thing. Let’s face it, older people (who are usually eh important ones) simply aren’t into gadgets the way those in their 20’s to early 40’s are. Besides, a CEO of a company usually doesn’t have the time to visit Nokia to berate the sales manager for her lack of psychic abilities.

The point of this rant is this: buy the gadgets you can use, not the gadget that will make you look cool…

…because if you need a gadget to look cool, you obviously are not.

Very true jpbl! And there also true blue power users who really do maximize all the features of high-end gadgets.
