This unfortunately has happened before. Someone loses a Macbook to a thief, then eventually finds it on sale on a buyers forum! Once again, the stolen gadget’s serial number played a big role. A full summary of the story of pgerry22, punkybrewster, and jeremiah_tnl2003 follows.

Sit back and relax: thanks to the generous posting of screenshots, this will be quite a long read. Still with me? Here goes…

So after losing his Macbook, “punkybrewster” dutifully posted details on peyups.com:

my macbook got stolen last sunday in the parking lot of rsm resto in tagaytay. in case someone’s selling you a second-hand macbook with serial number – w8735dgyz5w, pls don’t buy it and contact me at 09177961335. thanks!

Six months, later, we see jeremiah_tnl2003 sell a Macbook on TipidPC—with the same serial number! TipidPC user mark_17 was kind enough to point this out:

stolen-macbook

Ah, but that trail doesn’t end with jeremiah_tnl2003, according to mark_17, who claims that jeremiah_tnl2003 bought the stolen Macbook from pgerry22:

searching his feedbacks for the possible person who sold him the macbook, i found this and also confirms he bought that certain macbook from him. it as posted on Jan 13, just 2 days after it was stolen:

Now you’ve got jeremiah_tnl2003 sounding really worried:

Hi

I just read this blog tonight and just learned what happened… Now Im shaking in fear because i didnt know i bought a stolen mac.. I bought it from pgerry from tipidpc (could not remember when).

The problem is, i sold the item already just 2 days ago from a non-tpc member.

Pgerry is really nice guy and did not know this stolen thing.. If anything I could prove myself blameless, im ready to face the owner.. The item was posted long ago around 2 months na, sir mark told me long before, or at least you went after me na.

kaya pala nagtataka ako sa mga nag post sa posting ko, akala ko naman na chika ako ni pgerry na ung item ko ay galing sa kanya at the same price, yun pala stolen…. so i posted SOLD IN POSTED PRICE, pero ung totoo 33k nakuha. the person is from Marikina, nag meet kami sa cubao.

I would like to clear up my name sirs, since I never wanted any bad things to happen to me.. At the same time I also have my credibility not just because of church but because I had the same experience.

If anything u like to know here is my number: 09272920465

if you want i can meet you, and will not run, since you have my multiply account and its easy to find me, if you want i can pm you my address or anything so i can prove to you my credibility…

Now im trying to contact the person to whom i sold to and searching my last calls and last text…

I would like to meet the owner bringing the evidences of his mac.
Im really, really, really sory… tell me how may i help..

Kindly let the real owner pm me.

Also, please try to consider putting yourself into my shoes since i did not stole the thing.

I will only give my information to the real owner, since i cannot post my infos here for my protection…

Note how jeremiah_tnl2003 defends pgerry22 as also unaware that the Macbook they handled was stolen. The complete thread is here. If TipidPC’s admins have taken the thread down, you can view a screenshot here.

To be clear though, everything published in this article are just assumptions, based on what I’ve seen on the TipidPC thread. Updates to follow as they become available. (Thanks Ade Magnaye!)

    Hay. Not again.

We should really have an online repository of serial numbers so that sites like TipidPC as well as potential buyers can arm themselves.

Jiro Yan: Binayaran mo na ba siya?

Michael Arcilla: I already have a mock website fleshed out… know any good developers willing to work for free? :) It’s an advocacy you know.
