Akala Mo: Manny Villar’s Campaign Online
We all know Manny Villar’s planning to run for president this 2010. And it looks like he’s not afraid of trying things online to spread the word about his candidacy. Details on part of his online campaign, Akala Mo, follow.
In the grand tradition of fmylife.com, Manny Villar’s Akala Mo allows people to share their random disappointments: “May mga bagay ka bang inaakala? Share mo dito!” The only limits? You’ve got to work within the “Akala Ko… Yun Pala” framework, within a maximum of 280 characters. Some samples:
Akala Ko Graduate na ko yun pala yun pala next year pa
Akala Ko ma wa wash out na kami during tryphoons kasi sa tabi kami ng ilog nakatira yun pala matibay yong dike na pinagawa ng government namin dito, kaya safe na kami rito
Akala Ko akala ko yun pala hindi
Akala Ko akala ko masama yun pala kasama
Akala Mo represents a complete online front, supporting popular online services like Facebook, Twitter, and Blogger. There are even “Tropang Villar”-themed wallpapers available for download. And of course, prominently displayed on the upper right of the site, is a video of Manny Villar’s jingle.
Given the high production values of Akala Mo, it seems the entrepreneur-turned-politician is spending serious money to support his attempt at the presidency. Which makes me wonder: given the limited connectivity in the Philippines, is it even worth it?
