Nokia N97 Officially Launches in the Philippines

p1060351Yesterday afternoon saw the official launch of the Nokia N97, and I was finally able to test the phones features for the first time, all while snapping some up-close pics. Those and some first impressions follow.

Basically, think of the N97 as a more powerful Nokia 5800, with a QWERTY keyboard that slides out from underneath. The sizes of both phones are practically similar. The N97 also breaks the long tradition of N9x phones that barely last a day, thanks to its use of the same high-capacity battery as the E63 and E71.

Future owners should watch out: this phone attracts fingerprints like honey does bees. They should take care of the bundled accessories, as the N97 uses a proprietary port for its data cable and charger. At least the included adapter lets it work with those big- and small-pin standard Nokia chargers.

In the box:

  • Nokia N97
  • Phone Case
  • 1500mAh battery
  • Charger
  • Charger adapter
  • USB data cable
  • Manual and warranty docs
  • Earphone-remote handsfree kit
  • Nokia Ovi Suite installer
  • Wipe cloth
  • Detachable stylus you can loop into the phone

    From Nikka Abes of Nokia:

Lea’s question [is] for Operators… They would be in a better position to say whether they’re ranging the Nokia N97 in their plans or not. This much I can say, a few weeks ago we had a Nokia N97 preview event to Globe Platinum subsribers so that’s a sign they’ll be carrying the device and offering it to their consumers.

    Hope this helps!
