How Do You Keep Your Computer Desk Neat?

Turns out keeping your ops center orderly isn’t as hard as you think. In my case it took half an hour and some scotch tape. Two things worked in my favor though: My display and desk.

To see what I mean, click on the thumbnails below:

The Display: The HP w2228h has a built-in cable management system. It allowed me to neatly consolidate all the cables towards the back of the desk, and snake them along the frame down to the PC and UPS. The scotch (the high-quality 3M kind) is more a stopgap solution, but right now it’s holding up my cables nicely.

The Desk: The generously large desk is as simple as desks can get: four steel legs propping up a frame that supports the work surface. It came from Dimensione, and at around P3,000, was worthing saving up for. It has enough space for a 22″ display, your standard mouse & keyboard, and any papers, books, or documents you’ll need for your work.

My relatively neat desktop setup won’t stop here. Future plans include taping a small USB hub underneath my desk, so that I can connect the USB mouse and keyboard there and free up the USB ports on the side of my display. I also think the PC and UPS should be propped up on a wooden stand, so that sweeping the floor underneath becomes possible. Obviously the scotch tape holding the cables needs to go, to be replaced by less conspicuous black cable ties.

How do you keep your computer desk neat? How do you manage those potentially messy cables? Feel free to leave an opinion below.

(No doubt, the best solution I’ve seen is featured on decluttered.com. It makes use of pegboards to tuck literally everything underneath the desk, and is reportedly strong enough to actually hold a UPS up)

Dude, do you have any features on locally available ergonomic seats that don’t cost an arm and a leg?

I myself continue to look for this! :( Will definitely share it here if I find one.
