Microsoft Office 2010 First Impressions

Mango Chico couldn’t wait for the technical preview of Microsoft Office 2010 to come out officially, so he decided to rely on “the bandwagon of pirates” to download a copy. So far he’s checked out Microsoft Word.
Based on his first impressions, Microsoft Word 2010 features interesting visual touches similar to Windows 7, at no cost to loading times and responsiveness. Chico reports memory usage between 50-60MB.
It also seems that Microsoft finally realized the allowing users to set the ribbon (that tab-filled toolbar that has honestly confused long-time users of Microsoft Office) to “autohide” would be a good thing. I personally would use it so that I could see more of my work at a time.
Other features that seems interesting is the addition of text effects and the ability to quickly paste screenshots into your document. The former’s much like what’s currently available on Word 2007, but much snazzier looking!
In any case, the current copy of Microsoft Word 2010 is part of the Technical Preview of Microsoft Office 2010 (which includes 2010 versions of Powerpoint, Excel, Access, and Publisher). Here are a couple of download links, courtesy of Chico:
Not sure about which download link to use? Use the first one (32-bit). Downloads are 1.4GB in size. I cannot vouch for the integrity of either download, so use at your own risk.
