jc-candareWe all have a dark side, but John Conrad “JC” Candare Joseph Carlo Candare had to share his online, for everyone to see, and for Google to save for posterity. For even if you delete a really really offending blog post from your Multiply, it will remain available for those who know where to look. The following is a part of what JC Candare shared. The incident he narrates apparently occurred in UP, within the area of the National Institute of Physics (NIP).

An Accidental Crime. First day sa supercon. Lunch time came. On our way out of old NIP I saw the cat I almost killed last Tuesday. Now everyone knows I hate cats. It’s an unexplainable feeling towards them. Like some internal hatred. Hindi ko talaga alam kung bakit pero anumang pagpipigil sa sarili ay hindi sapat upang mapangibabawan ang panggigil ko sa mga pusa. I pulled it on its tail and threw it. Then like some pro wrestler I jumped on it and my feet landed on it’s torso. Slam! Felt good! But the cat didn’t die, well not yet. It ran for it’s life and just as I was about to catch up on it somebody yelled: “Pwede bang pabayaan mo yung pusa?!”. It was instant and involuntary. I stopped on my tracks. Nobody ever stopped me when assaulting cats. Well I guess there’s always a first time for everything. The cat got away. Or at least that’s what i thought. So we went to lunch Mel, Jayson, Tracy and me. After lunch, balik na sa kung anumang naiwang gawain. Then Tracy and Mel told me ” Hui Jc napatay mo yung pusa”. Hours later, habang abala sa XRD, a guy came in. Tanong niya: “Sinong pumatay dun sa pusa?” Bang! Dat was me boi. Guilty as charged. I didn’t see it die pero sabi ni Myles it coughed up blood or at least something like that daw. Didn’t realize I gave it a fatal hit. This isn’t the first time I’ve killed a cat but this time it’s different. It didn’t occur to me back then that the cat had a leash. So I think somebody owns it. Well it’s very well loved in NIP from what I heard and I just ended it’s life. So there you go I’m sorry. And I wont be striking another one for maybe about a month. It feels good when your beating it(a cat) up but you suddenly feel something strange when it turns off permanently. That’s how I feel right now. And maybe for the next days. Dang, am I a cat serial killer? [emphasis mine]

I agree with many of the comments left on JC’s post: sick sick sick! But more importantly, JC Candere is yet another example of how you should never post anything incriminating online about yourself. Once it’s on the Internet, it stays there practically forever, and as a record can lead to trouble. Even if what you write is not true, people tend to treat as such. It is in the public’s interest to realize that they should be careful about what they share online! No matter how vigorously you apologize, the damage is done.

What kind of trouble? According to Multiply user cutterhands, who left a comment on JC’s original post: “FYI, certain faculty members are considering to charge you with violation of section RA 8485 Section 6 with punishment given in Section 8″. Also known as the Animal Welfare Act.

At the same time, even if Mr. Candare escapes legal or academic consequences, he currently remains the focus of people dedicated to throwing armchair insults, shaming him and exposing his family members to scrutiny.

Update: A full timeline of what’s happened over the last two years is available here. Last June 2009, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) filed charges against Mr. Candere, citing violation of the Philippine Animal Welfare Act. In November of that year, the UP Tribunal decided that Candere’s actions did not constitute “misconduct”. Back in October 2010, the Metropolitan Trial Court of Quezon City (Branch 40) filed a warrant for Mr. Candere’s arrest. The student had failed to respond to previous summons connected to charges filed by PAWS. On May 14, 2011, it was announced that Candare was found guilty of animal cruelty.

Mr. Candare is surely in trouble for his own stupidity; his act is subjected to felony. Animal torture and killing is strictly prohibited in Philippines based on Republic Act No. 8485. Anyone who “kill or cause or procure to be tortured (Section 6)” an animal is convicted by “final judgment, be punished by imprisonment of not less than six (6) months nor more than two (2) years or a fine or not less than One thousand pesos (P1,000) nor more that Five thousand pesos (P5,000) or both at the discretion of the Court (Section 8).” If I were a lawyer, I would bring this issue to the court. But, unfortunately, Im only a nursing student. My point in bringing the law upon this matter is that for Mr. Candare to be careful on his doings. He surely can be charged by this. Moreover, he needs to addressed his cruelty towards cats on a specialist. I really do think he has some mental issues.

Btw, if this “JC-cat killer” wasn’t true, then its not a good joke at all.

It is a well known fact that most serial killers and psychopaths tortured, abused and killed animals when they were young.

You should never trust this Candare character and put him on a watchlist.

    psy·cho·path (sī’kə-pāth’)
    n. A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse.
