Facebook Requires Filipino to Use His Real Name

facebook-nicknames

Filipino Facebook user Tonton suddenly couldn’t access his Facebook account, eventually reading the following message and finding out why.

Hi,

Unfortunately, our systems detected that the name on your account might violate our standards. Facebook requires all profiles to be associated with a full, real name that corresponds to a single individual.

Please provide the following information, and we will gladly re-evaluate the status of your account.

First Name:
Last Name:
Primary use for account:

Thanks,

The Facebook Team

Tonton did reply with the information required by Facebook. As of this writing, his account is working again. Feel free to visit Antonio “Tonton” Piamonte on Facebook if you want.

What’s really weird though is that a lot of my contacts on Facebook use their nicknames, but you don’t see the website disabling their accounts. “Rico” isn’t my real first name, but my nickname, but “Rico Mossesgeld” has yet to be banned.
