Shaider, Bioman, and Maskman Remain Alive Through Online Video

shaider

Man, we were all such suckers for the Tokusatsu genre. All local studios had to do was import the following Japanese action shows to change our childhood forever.

Shaider: Pulis Pangkalawakan

What other show had kids pretending they were commanding Babilos’ awesome weaponry via Matrix Projection, and dreaming of Annie as she wisely bent her legs while leaping over camera? Mostly missed was the point of technology doing good if in the right hands.

Bioman

Admit it: you cried when Yellow 4 died. And you secretly mimicked the henchmen’s quick and jerky arm movements. I still can’t believe I dreamed of being Blue 2, Mr. Flattop-Box-Type-Race-Car driver.

Laser Squadron Maskman

(Yes, the first 15 seconds are really part of it) Red Mask’s buggy leaping into the air—revealing the all caps MASKMAN—was really really cool when I was young. Now I laugh at how cheesy it is. To this day I still do those famous hand gestures though.

Machine Man

By special request of Zach: By day, a geek willing to risk his life to save a poor puppy from the onslaught of rush hour. By night, Machine Man, the villain-stopping super-hero with the see-through plastic cape!

Bonus: Supaidaman!

I wasn’t even conceived before Spiderman the Tokusatsu version aired. Would you believe that this show, created under an agreement made between Marvel and Toei back in the 70s, established conventions that later heroes like Shaider would follow?
