Recording Sex Videos May Become Illegal

cellphone-video-clipsSo Valentine’s Day is around the corner. No doubt, motel operators are bracing themselves for what’s probably the most profitable day of their fiscal years. The law may not care about two adults consenting like rabbits, but that might not be the case for sex videos recorded with cameras and cell phones. Not if Rep. Irwin Tieng has anything to say about it:

In a statement on Thursday, Buhay Rep. Irwin Tieng, principal author of the “Anti Cyber-Boso” bill, warned lovers against being “too trustful” of their partners as many cases his office has monitored showed that individuals who spread sex videos over the Internet or via Bluetooth do so to revenge or to blackmail their lovers.

“Your lover today may be your blackmailer tomorrow,” Tieng said.

House Bill No. 4315, pending approval by Congress, will make “the recording of ‘private act or acts and other violations of the privacy of an individual’ using mobile phones or video cameras” illegal. The bill also prohibits the “mere possession” of these videos, as well as the act of sharing them in whatever format. The penalty for those caught? Up to six years in prison, and P500,000 fine for anyone involved in a filming of the sex video.

I totally understand the intentions behind this bill. The La Salle scandal girl reportedly did not go out for a year after her sex video was publicized, and I can only imagine what she went through as her privates became the viewing pleasure of practically every horny guy in the country. But, how will the government enforce the Anti Cyber-Boso bill, if it becomes law? The only possible scenario I imagine the law working is when the police discover amateur smut on the cellphone of someone they’ve arrested.
