Feedback on Sun Broadband Wireless Found All Over the Net

If the folks over at Sun Cellular are ignoring this thread on philmug, they do so at their own risk. Since last year, users of Sun Broadband Wireless (SBW), Sun’s 3G service, have been posting speed figures from various locations.

Most of the recent posts discuss areas in Northern Manila (kbps figures are in download and upload speeds respectively):

  • edsailormoon: 722 kbps @ “eastwood mall”
  • mak_e: 2051/354 kbps @ “QC North area near the big malls”
  • balikpinoy: 1212/89kbps @ “Fort Global City”

You also have users complaining and threatening returns:

  • xerx: “tama ka dyan pards..ang bagal nga kagabe harharhar pero ngayong umaga ok na ulit sun talaga oo”
  • balikpinoy: “SBW has been down all day here in Fort area. This thing is going back to the sun shop for a complete refund.”
  • sabsar: “I subscribed to SBW a week ago. The connection has been fast until …. today. Was only online twice the whole day — a grand total of 10 minutes. How frustrating!!!”

Sun should consider itself really lucky. They get free feedback from their customers, as well as performance benchmarks during various times of days and at different locations. Not only in philmug, mind you. A thread on TipidPC also shares first-hand customer experiences.

Sun Cellular should also take note of local blogger Nino Carandang’s tips on how to get SBW to work properly with Macs. It’s freely-developed info like that—which was created to provide information Sun’s customer service apparently was unable to provide—that a company should build on.

    Sun Broadband is the most lousy internet provider for me, even dial-up i would say is waaayyyy better than Sun!!!! The problem is, you are in a contract, this is blackmail! No problem if the service is good, even five years am willing to be binded with a contract, but Sun? It Sucks!!!!

    Well don’t expect any improvements in Sun Broadband’s service. Its part of their scheme. They won’t tell you that unless you are so persistent to know and furious enough to curse them to hell. Facts will be revealed to you that they employ such devious schemes. When you download or play online games, they considered that as a peer-to-peer connection, and their network engineers(NE) limits your bandwidth to 20% or even much lower than that. Their system from the time you are detected to be having a P2P connection will automatically do the switching. For post paid and other subscribed plans, you are totally controlled by whatever the likes of their NE. They can put you in grouping where settings can easily be maintained and therefore you will always be at the mercy of this “devil” NE’s.
    For prepaid subscribers, please don’t call sun’s hotline when you encounter minor problem. Giving them details like your sim number and your personal details will create more headache for you.

    That’s exactly what happened to us. We are not the usual customers who doesn’t know things that goes around the connection. We are technical people too(a licensed electronic and communications engineer and a programmer/technician). I for one has been in the computer industry for more than 2 decades already. Btw we are using the dongle i originally bought locked with another provider’s sim. I unlock it so now i can use all the sim(sun,smart and globe). I have another dongle which was brought by my niece from digitel. I was having “the best” connection for about a month then one early morning, there was a problem. I lost connection and for about 10 mins i cannot get through the web although i was connected to sun and my SSE was at full bar. I have another connection which is pldt so i dialed the sun hotline. I was told by the CSR that they are having maintenance AND upgrade to better serve the public. I was ask certain info and to my surprise they were asking for my sim’s telephone number. Not knowing that this could be the start of hell, with regards to their service, and besides i was having good connection for about a month already, they somehow got a little of my trust so i gave them the info they need. I was told to wait for about 24 hours for any development. it was already mid afternoon when i open my pc. There is already a connection but it was damned so slow and curse them i never got better connection since then.I have used other sim and viola i was able to get good connection. But then after a while they tried to block me again sending me messages that my account have problem and they were asking me to call their hotline number. LOL i am using prepaid account and without load i could never get connected with so it was obvious this time that they would like to get details of my connection again. Before i was able to download game client(as big as 8GB) but now, i could hardly get it done even when i tried to download small client and in part. They always cut the connection when the download is almost done and the worst is that they wont even let you download from the beginning. The connection is always at its lowest as i can see on the statistics…….always at the bottom. I always tried to ping and trace route of my connection and it shows how sun limit or even blocks important sites to me, sites that i usually get accessed to.

    I have searched for many forums containing feedback for SBW, i was so disappointed and couldn’t help but sympathize with them because i am in the same situation. I can curse them to hell like others who have somehow lost their temper(i’m losing my patience too), but still they have full control of our connection. The only thing i could do now is to be an advocate for the non use of this provider.

    What i really hate is the fact that some Filipinos doesn’t even care for their fellow Filipinos.What these personnel of sun and other broadband providers are doing are even worst than the so called “crab mentality”. They let people down, the very same people that they are getting all their resources to live and support their family. They don’t even have the shame that all their salaries and company benefits comes from all of us paying subscribers. They are really shameless. Sun and other providers were lucky they are in the Philippines, that’s what i told the CSR (because they can’t even get me through their supervisors or shift managers), otherwise if they are in other country like the US, they could have been slapped with millions or even billions dollars lawsuit from the angered subscribers………..

    mahirap pa sa sun.. charge ng charge.. aba nabill kami ng 2mos. na hindi namin nagimit and we have to pay dahil may nareceive kami na demand letter from a law firm.. stating na pag di kami nagbayad ay magapply cla ng kaso.. e sa hindi naman namin nagamit ang 2mos. naku, kaya KARMA na lang sa SUN sa pinagagagawa nila. Cge magpay kami, para tapos na ang usapan.. pero masasabi ko lang di sila magiging successful pag puro billing lang sila magaling..

    ang bagal ng sun. sayayng lang binabayad namin, ang mahal pa. hindi worth it ang presyo nila. sobrang nakakasisi kung bakit a kami nagsun. may mga times na di kami nakakagawa ng works na kailangan tapusin dahil walang signal o kaya mabagal. google nga lang, aabutin pa ko ng more than 5 mins. ewan ko ba sa sun! kung ako sainyo, wag na kayong magbalak magsun, waste of money and time. ang mahal pa maningil,sagana lang naman sila sa salita at promos eh. malakas lang siya sa daling araw, pero di rin sya ganon kabilis. ang 1 minute video na papanoorin mo, iintayin mo pa ng more than 30 mins. no joke. take it from my experience.

    akala ko maganda ang sun, ang ganda nila mag promo at magsalita. ung bill ng sun ay di worth it sa service na binibigay nila. madalas na hindi namin natatapos works namin dahila walng signal. google nga lang eh tumatagal pa ng more than 5 mins para magload. even ang 1 minute na video more than 30 minutes nagloload. no joke. dapat improve nila ung service nila at ung price nila. advise ko lang, never use sun broadband. magkaka problem ka alng lalo at mastress. di pa maganda connection. mabibilang ko sa isa kong kamay ang pagkakaroon ng magandang connection ng sun, nakakadisappoint lang.
