Pirated PlayStation 3 Games to Follow Soon?
On a recent trip to BF Ruins, informally known for its selection pirated movies, music, video games, and software, I saw some vendors selling “Blu-Ray movies”. Now I’m not sure if these were really pirated Blu-Ray discs, or actually DVDs copied from original Blu-Ray copies of a movie, but if the pirates have finally found a way to duplicate Blu-Ray discs at a low-cost, does this mean we could be seeing the popularity of the PlayStation 3 to grow here in the Philippines?
Think about it: if and when PlayStation 3 games—which run on Blue-Ray discs—are pirated, demand for the PlayStation 3 will definitely increase. Based on my own informal observations, the majority of gaming here in the Philippines is driven by piracy, as many people simply cannot afford the games they want to play. The original Sony PlayStation outsold the Nintendo 64 a few years back partly because it was easier to pirate PlayStation games, meaning they were available at a much lower cost to anyone who wanted to play some video games.
