Trinoma Wants You to Turn on Your Bluetooth

As reported by migs during a recent excursion to Trinoma Mall in Metro Manila:

Its encouraging mobile phone users to turn on their Bluetooth. Was surprised to see this.

I’m sure this is a way for them to do advertising through phones of mobile users. They can also get details of mobile phone users through this.

I know that mobile phones nowadays are capable of fighting most mobile phone virus. But this move is making it easy for the “naughty people” to spread a virus or even hack your mobile phones via bluetooth or just even Bluejacking… (I think they haven’t heard of Bluejacking).

Good point Migs. Though I wonder, what kind of incentive do these bluejackers have? And even worse, it’s possible that advertisers can even resort to bluejacking to get their message across.

Maybe they will just try to monitor how people move around the mall and what shops they go to.

I wonder if this is the same as the big, colorful banner in the Makati underpass that says “Turn on your bluetooth…”

AdMU has this thing going in the cafeteria as well. wonder if caught on, though.

but yeah, it’s an open invitation to naughty people to start spreading stuff via bluetooth.
