Looking for your very own 1.2 Gbps Internet connection?

Happy Communications 4G Wimax

Other Asian countries such as Japan or South Korea have already implemented Internet technologies that push speeds to ridiculous rates; Imagine downloading files that are hundreds of megabytes in size in mere seconds rather than hours.

Will Philippine internet surfers ever experience such speeds?

Browsing the net revealed a local company called Happy Communications (http://happy.com.ph), that promises (or has promised) to push internet speeds up to 1.2 Gbps using 4G technology. Happy Communications also states on their website that:

Ushering in a new age of communications, HAPPY is the first to offer 4G technology in the country – fully wireless Internet Protocol-based applications distributed at speeds of 50Mbps to 1Gbps – mobile connectivity that’s even faster than traditional broadband.

Now for the bad news:

  • The Happy website hasn’t been updated since 2007
  • A quick search revealed a reported pricing scheme that is geared toward corporate consumers than a mass market audience.
  • Lots of PR for a nonexistent product.
  • Do you even know anyone or any company using this service?

Until the average filipino users gets their hands on an actual working faster-than-globe-or-pldt-or-smart internet service, then the dream of having internet speeds on par as our wealthier Asian neighbors is just that.

happy communications has made a graduate school in makati a testing ground for its service before, i did use it before when it was free and it was fast, but i didn’t feel that it was significantly faster than the fastest bandwidth PLDT currently has. Now that they require payment for usage, nobody I know of actually paid for it.
