Slight Improvements to PBA Website Still Not Enough

The last time we checked out pba.ph, the official website of the Philippine Basketball Association, we lamented about its poor design, lack of prompt updates, and general irrelevancy to PBA fans. Fast forward almost four months, and things are more or less the same:
To their credit, the league has started using a better header (but it’s not a mind-blowingly awesome header). And that picture slideshow now works. Better yet, the news items are much more up-to-date! As of this writing, I get to read summaries on games concluded mere hours ago.
Two Things to Fix
But there are still two things the PBA online folks need to work on. The layout really has to change. It’s obvious that the current design is more the ads than the site content. There is a way to balance the need to display ads (to pay for the cost of running the site, and perhaps generate some extra cash for the league) while still providing a nice reading experience for interested visitors. The PBA has to find it.
On top of that, visiting pba.com.ph and pba.ph brings you to two separate sites. Either visiting pba.com.ph should automatically redirect the user to pba.ph, or vice-versa, and making this happen is simply a matter of changing the sites’ web server settings. This will definitely lessen confusion among PBA fans.
Design?
Oh, and if you’re wondering about the generally lackluster visuals, I’m honestly fine with that, so long as the PBA makes the website easy to browse through and read. Fixing the eye candy can come afterwards, after the PBA website experience improves.
C’mon PBA, you’re almost there! Let’s keep on improving that website!

I think they should also put in more content. Parang manipis pa rin eh.
And puh-leese. Get rid of the Adsense. Parang unprofessional naman ng league na may Adsense.

You’re right Mike… maybe the web designer greedily put the AdSense in under the PBA officials’ unaware noses?
