StoredApps.com: The Filipino-Made iPhone App Directory

If you’re looking for an app to install on your iPhone or iPod touch, StoredApps.com offers an alternative way of locating it. True, you can visit the iTunes store to search for apps, but Stored Apps allows visitors to sort the app list category and price (yes, you can just choose to view the free apps).

Here’s what an email sent yesterday—sent by the same people behind katext.com—had to say:

Hi,

You may be interested in the iPhone Apps directory we built from scratch called Stored Apps at http://storedapps.com/

As a backgrounder, the site runs on PHP and MySQL, it indexed Apple’s iTunes App store and generates auto tags for additional searching capabilities. It now generates 100 visitors a day in traffic without any major SEO work (until now).

Finally, if you decide to write about it, please help digg it too using this link: http://digg.com/apple/Find_free_iPhone_Apps

Many thanks!

The site needs a bit of work though—they might have the data, but I’ve found that StoredApps.com’s search doesn’t work properly all the time.

Good work for the Filipinos… I got to try this one and find out. :)

Wait, let me get this right – they scraped the iTunes store content and passed it off as their own site? Ok, aside from a probable lawsuit from Apple, how is this innovative?

Marco, the site guy: Well, I’m sure Apple will do something sooner than later—even if Stored Apps pulls the data from publicly available information(?). For me, it’s more about the convenience of being able to search the Apps database with filters.

Eh? I think you can do that right now with the current app store http://img.skitch.com/20081201-qmcc25yj5nn61mgf28kg8bnb62.png

Just to address some of points raised…

    Rico,
the site is still buggy on the search side. We’re working on ironing out the bugs along with a new layout.

    Marco,
our site is actually an affiliate of Apple as it adds value to their content in several ways:
    - storedapps.com is google indexed, the App Store isn’t.
    - our site can be viewed from any browser
    - our site generates tags (ex. search ‘racing’ and you’ll get more related results)

    Thanks for all your comments.
