Nokia E63 to Debut in the Philippines Mid-December

Update: It’s finally out! The Nokia E63’s SRP is P14,200 in the Philippines. The Nokia E63 “should be in stores mid-December. No price indication yet but definitely at a lesser cost than the E71.” This according to a reliable source within Nokia Philippines, who shared the information with me this morning.

Sharing a similar appearance and form factor with the E71—right down the QWERTY keyboard and button placement—the lower-priced E63 seems like an attractive “budget” alternative to the more powerful E71. Read on to see why.

Projected Price. As David writes, the E63’s launch price abroad is $254, or nearly P12,400. I’m projecting the E63 to cost no more than P15,500 when it finally reaches the Philippines, still a quite reasonable price in my opinion.

Feature Set. For your typical power user, the E63’s 2.0 megapixel camera and lack of HSDPA may be a cause for concern. But this phone still features an easy-to-get-used-to QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, and the long-lasting 1500mAh battery. Not to mention the capability to play music, videos, support for email, a microSD slot, and a damn good web browser. On top of all this, the E63 uses a standard 3.5mm jack, which supports standard earphones and headphones—a feature not found on the E71.

In short, less than P16,000 for a phone that can do practically anything on-the-go? A good buy for this Christmas! It just depends on how accurate my price projection turns out to be, and whether or not Nokia Philippines will follow its release schedule.

Yugatech reports that SRP is at Php11,000. Also from a trusted Nokia source.

If this thing sells for Php15,000, I’d get the Samsung i760 instead, which a seller on ebay.ph is selling for Php16,600.

We shall see… I’d be very very pleased if this phone does cost P11,000… but something tells that the official price won’t be that low.

Hey Rico, I was wondering–up to how long can the E63 record stuff? I heard the E71 can record up to an hour.

If the E63 is capable of recording up to an hour of interviews, I’d ditch my E61–it’s capable of recording only up to 1 minute.

If it is going to sell at less than 15K, not bad at all.

The E63 can record up to an hour, same as the E71 and the E66.

I checked out the specs at nokia.com and compared it with e71 – seems like the main diff is the slightly bigger form and 2 MP camera. Is there anything else that would justify around 7K diff? If not, then e71 owners have been ripped off :(

In my experience, it takes a lot to make a phone just 10mm thick (E71). And, the E63 lacks HSDPA connectivity too.
