When Will the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Reach the Philippines?

See what happened when Nokia officially launched the phone here in the Philippines

To make a long story short, within the first quarter of next year.

Last Friday in Singapore, Nokia launched the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Comparisons to the iPhone are inevitable, thanks to the 5800’s large screen and touch-sensitive controls.

But 5800 is definitely different. This isn’t only due to the features—which are numerous enough to make this phone Nokia’s new “do-it-all” flagship—but the aggressive pricing and bundled extras as well. Continue to see demo videos.

Specs

  • A 640 x 360 (16:9) 3.2″ 16-million color display
  • the Symbian S60 OS, 5th Edition
  • An accelerometer for auto screen rotation
  • A 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl-Zeiss lens dual LED flash
  • WiFi (b/g)
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • HSDPA
  • GPS
  • a 3.5mm jack for audio and video output (includes TV-out!)
  • 140MB of internal memory
  • a microSD slot that accepts up to 16GB (SDHC)
  • 1320mAh of battery power via the Nokia BL-5J
  • a length of 115mm, width of 52mm, thickness of 14.55mm, and a weight of 104 grams

Bundled Extras

On top of that, Nokia promises to bundle an 8GB microSD with each phone, on top of the included extra pen stylus, plectrum (a stylus alternative shaped like a guitar pick), headset, carrying case, portable stand, video out cable, and of course charger. The Finns made sure to make me remember that this phone will play music for 35 hours straight.

How much would you pay for that? With a launch price of 279 euros in the UK, Nokia has a huge opportunity to keep the price down when this phone reaches the Philippines. Let’s hope the price doesn’t go higher than P20,000!

Touch-Sensitive Controls

In any case, the only issue I have so far with this phone (from a half-an-hour usage session) are the lack of physical buttons. Nokia has finally jumped on the touch-screen bandwagon, and while that’s a welcome change for some people, not everyone is really into tapping out letters on a virtual QWERTY keyboard. At least Nokia still lets you enter text with one hand, via a touch-sensitive numeric keypad.

Oo nga JV, medyo pangit nga ung camera under low-light conditions. Pero may dalawang games na pre-installed naman sa review unit na ginagamit ko, at may naka-samang 8GB na microSD na. Confirmed na from Nokia na P19,990 ung presyo.

I actually saw Carrefour (huge supermarket chain in the UAE) selling it for ONLY a bit over 1,300AED! Woo! UNFAIR! I bought mine in December last year for 1500AED!!! [Anybody interested in buying a second-hand unit? ;p] From a consumer’s point of view, this mobile rocks! AWESOME features! The best part I love about it is the expandable memory..beat that, Apple! If you guys can get a hold of it in Manila, do so! I was home for Christmas and I swear people were drooling over my phone! Top pogi-points all the way!
