Admittedly, tennis may not be very important to many Filipinos, but the recently concluded 2008 Wimbledon “Gentleman’s” Single’s Finals—where Spaniard Rafael Nadal won his first Wimbledon championship, unseating five-time champion Roger Federer—attracted the attention of even non-tennis-fans.

That’s because it was easily the best game of tennis we ever seen. We’ll be the first to admit that we find tennis boring. But in the finals, neither Nadal nor Federer were willing to give, returning extraordinarily powerful and accurate shots right until the every end, after 4 hours and 48 minutes of playing time.
Words can hardly describe how thrilling the match was, but for those of you who unfortunately missed out on one of the greatest competitions ever, take a look at Caroline Cheese’s real-time journal of the match. Technology allowed her to write down her first-hand experiences of the game, and share it with the world. And thanks to the Internet, her transcript allows anyone around the world to relive the classic—at least until the DVD of the game becomes available.
Philippine Sporting Events Should be Recorded This Way
We can only imagine how those immortal matchups between Toyota and Crispa during the heyday of the PBA played out. But what if a fan was able to write down what they saw as it happened, and was able to easily share it with the rest of us? Like we said, words alone can’t make up for not being there, but it would’ve given our minds a better picture of what happened, and would’ve helped us share the wonder of those epic basketball games at least.
Why can’t the UAAP, or even the PBA, get people to watch the match and share what they see for public consumption? Aside from giving local sports fans what they want, this will also be a potential moneymaker for local sporting bodies. Making these updates available on their own websites will conceivably attract more visitors, which in most basic terms usually means more opportunities for advertising income.
Surely, there are more historic moments to be made in the world of Philippine sports. Not everyone will have a chance to experience them, but technology in the Philippines can make it possible for these special times (like Game One of the UAAP Season 69 Men’s Basketball Finals) to be recorded for posterity. For eager sports fans and future generations alike.

hi! i also watched the wimbledon finals this year and it was so worth it! would like to ask if the dvd of the match will be available in the philippines. if so, where can i get a copy?
