We Almost Ordered From RSUN, But…

They don’t support credit cards! RSUN is a local online store (rsun.com.ph) that sells consumer electronics to people in Metro Manila. They’ve got a decent selection, reasonable prices, and an interface that makes sense. Unfortunately, some issues with the shopping process may drive away business.
We were about to buy this Logitech Premium Stereo Headset for our Skype calls (the P550 price seemed reasonable). So we added the item to our cart, and clicked on Checkout, expecting to be able to pay via credit card.
Imagine our horror when we saw that we could only pay “upon pickup”, or through bank deposit! We at Technograph understand that not every Filipino has a credit card. But why shouldn’t any online shop, local and international, support credit card holders, most of whom are willing to spend more? At least RSUN offers multiple delivery options. No way are we driving all the way to their Taft and Mandaluyong stores.
We also had issues with the account registration process. We still pushed through with our order, selecting a payment method at random. Before you RSUN can process your order, it requires you to sign up for an account. Nothing’s wrong with that, but after you go through all the trouble of providing all your personal info, you aren’t brought back to where you where; you have to look for the product, add it to your cart, and check out again if you wanted to continue buying.
That problem is easily solved by a few hours of coding. And it’s relatively easy to add credit card support to a retail website. So once again, we find ourselves asking: why are many local online retailers hesitant to accept credit card payments? Cost? Hassle?
