An Online Organization That Every Filipino Should Support

The concept driving Team RP, free access to information, is hardly revolutionary. But here in the Philippines, a dose of openness is badly needed.
Take the national budget for instance: wouldn’t public access to each ledger item make public officials more accountable? If our politicians are indeed using every centavo of tax money for the benefit of their respective constituencies, opening up the budget would help defeat the general impression that public funds are mostly used for personal gain. And obviously, transparency would limit the opportunities for any irregularities to occur.
Such access is what Team RP would like to see. The organization is pushing for the passage of the Philippine Access to Information Law (PAIL), which would “provide explicit procedures in allowing public access to government documents”. We at Technograph believe that Team RP is an online organization that every Filipino should support, due to the clarity of its message. What could be more simple than a call for Truth, Accountability and Reform?
To quote a cliche, the truth will set you free. And in this case, it’s reasonable to say that the truth will set the Philippine free from the tired cycle of apparent corruption and lack of political will. The truth allows accountability, which provides an accurate picture of what needs to change. Once the necessary changes are known, real reform becomes possible.
