The TopBlogs Philippines “Scandal”
By Rico, 11:11 am Tue Apr 1 2008 - News - 3 Opinions
Julie Aquino recently alleged that someone has been artificially inflating their ranking on TopBlogs Philippines (topblogs.com.ph). The deed involved placing the same TopBlogs code on more than one site. This was done apparently to pass off the traffic generated by at least three different sites as coming from only one.
Its seems TopBlogs Philippines hasn’t caught on, despite their promised use of “advanced anti-cheating methods to keep the riff-raff out.” Looks like the ranking site needs to be more vigilant, unless they want to lose credibility. In any case, we at Technograph think that ranking websites that rely on third-party indicators, like Andrew de la Serna’s Ratified.Org, will always do a better job. At least compared to sites that require a linkback in order to be ranked.
NB: Based on the code Julia Aquino published (pictured above), we’ve determined that one of the sites she featured was conradmiguel.com, currently #18 on TopBlogs Philippines.
