Update: The Air is locally available at a price lower than we initially thought. See the comments for more details.

With the shipping date of the MacBook Air having long passed us by, it was only a matter of time before we saw the ultra-slim notebook in the Philippines.

That’s what happened yesterday when we dropped by the Greenbelt branch of Power Mac, an unimaginatively-named yet popular local Apple “Premium Reseller.” According to the salesman, the Air is currently on by-order basis, and will set you back Php 94,990. Pretty close to our original prediction of “near Php 100,000“. Power-users may have issues with the computer’s relative slowness, but it’s nothing the internet and email crowd can’t handle.

It’s quite different seeing the MacBook Air up close and personal, because we can honestly say that no picture or video accurately conveys just how thin the gadget is. But in many ways, the Air is just like any other computer. For instance, placing it on your lap is still a no-no to any male’s virility, thanks to the heat generated by its Core 2 Duo processor.

One thing’s for sure: our resident Mac expert‘s dreams have finally come true. A full review will follow once we get our hands on a unit.

It sells for P84,999 if you buy it from Senco :P

  • The Technographist

Great find! Are they also on per-order basis? Hope the folks at Power Mac are reading this!

Most likely they are order basis :) Is this the standard one or the SSD?

  • The Technographist

The cheaper, standard one. :) We’re pretty sure the model with the solid state drive will go over Php 100k if it was sold here. Why do gadgets have to be so expensive in the Philippines? :(

    I still prefer a Macbook/Macbook Pro.

I don’t get the black keys. Don’t you think white would have looked better?

  • The Technographist

Maybe they styled the Air after the new iMac? We’re talking about the silver steel on the back and the black framing the monitor.

    @ alvin
where is senco? btw, do you guys think it’s even rational to shell out 70-90 grand to a personal dealer for the reason alone of cheaper prices?(i mean, ALOT cheaper) and just eschewing “premium resellers” for their highfaluting prices despite their being reputable? ignorant and confused little guy here. replies would be highly appreciated. is macbook air really worth the price?or its just like any laptop brands.im just confused whether buying an iphone 3g or a macbook air instead..

Any other lower price for that? Is it really worth for its price? Or its just for the fame. If there aren’t any can anyone suggest some cheap priced notebooks? I mean Cheap in price but the performance and quality is very good. Not to mention the word “Power-users may have issues with the computer’s relative slowness, but it’s nothing the internet and email crowd can’t handle.”
